Director of Public Relations, Grambling State University

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelors Degree in Public Relations or a related field is required and a Masters degree preferred with at least five (5) years of professional experience. A degree in other fields may be accepted if accompanied by significant relevant work experience. The desired candidate must have demonstrated the ability to plan and direct an effective public relations program that created and maintained a favorable public image for an institution or agency. Experience in organizing, planning, participating and communicating with governmental and community based organizations are also required. We are seeking applicants who have a track record of creating collations and partnerships among government, community and general public constituencies. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. The successful candidate will be a public relations professional who will develop and execute publicity plans and engage with members of the media to generate effective coverage for the University.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Publish informative, compelling stories about the University, its programs, students, faculty, alumni, events, and institutional initiatives
  • Plan and direct the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the University’s programs and accomplishments
  • Clearly articulate our organizational mission and vision statements
  • Write and distribute news releases, pitch letters, campus announcements, and other press materials
  • Establish and maintain effective working and public relations with both internal and external constituents
  • Assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze information, and recommends courses of action to be taken
  • Build community relations (identify constituency groups)
  • Engage members of the media to build interest in and coverage for the College
  • Provide the university's web site with up-to-date news releases, articles, etc
  • Maintain the public relations infrastructure
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Good judgment, impeccable character and self-discipline to plan and accomplish media-related goals, build and maintain strong relationships, start and end projects on time.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), web content management and social media management/measurement tools.Experience with media database management and distribution tools (Vocus, Cision) preferred.
  • Experience in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and/or digital video production for web desired, but not critical.
